Sometimes the hardest part comes after the decision has already been made. You may have expected to feel one way after an abortion and found yourself feeling something completely different. Maybe you feel fine. Maybe you feel sad, angry, relieved, confused, or simply unable to put your emotions into words.

Whatever your experience has been, you do not have to pretend you feel differently or rush yourself through it. Taking time to understand your emotions and finding the right support can help you begin healing.

Life Choices Community Pregnancy Clinic is here to offer post-abortion support. Everything is confidential, and all of our services are free. Our support is available in both individual and group settings, depending on what makes you feel most comfortable.

Be Honest About How You Feel

It can be tempting to push difficult emotions aside and try to move forward without acknowledging them. However, giving yourself permission to be honest about how you feel can be an important part of processing your experience.

There is no single way you are supposed to feel after an abortion. Writing in a journal, praying, or talking with someone you trust can give you a safe place to express what you are experiencing without judging yourself for having those feelings.

Take Care of Yourself

Emotional healing takes time, so try to be patient with yourself. Make space for things that help you feel calm and supported. This might include getting enough rest, eating regular meals, spending time with people who make you happy, taking a walk, or doing activities that help you feel like yourself again.

You do not have to force yourself to feel better immediately. Taking small steps to care for yourself can give you the space you need to process your emotions at your own pace. You may find that the more you take care of yourself, the more hope you feel on this healing journey.

Find Help, Healing, and Hope

Life Choices Community Pregnancy Clinic provides a post-abortion support program to help you find healing and community.

If you decide to discuss your experience one-on-one, you will meet confidentially with someone trained to support women affected by abortion. If you choose a group setting, you will meet people with similar stories and experiences. You can share as much or as little as you feel comfortable.

We also provide a Reclaiming Fatherhood program, which provides a roadmap to healing for men who are struggling with the emotional and spiritual fallout of abortion.

If difficult emotions are interfering with your daily life or you are struggling to cope, consider reaching out to a qualified mental health professional for additional support. Asking for support does not make you weak; if anything, it shows how strong you are.

We Are Here for You

You do not have to navigate these feelings alone. Life Choices Community Pregnancy Clinic offers confidential post-abortion support if you want to talk to someone, enroll in the free healing program, or discuss a past abortion experience. Our team is here to listen and help you find the support that fits your needs.
